''Designer PR'

Public Relations clearly has a chance to set new trends and industry standards.

Marcus Brewster a trend-setter and leader in the PR industry stated in an article featured in the Weekend Argus on December 13,2008,that Public Relations is giving itself a bad name because industry professionals are losing their originality and creativity by following the norms of industry. Maybe this new era of ‘Designer PR’ will breathe new life into PR practitioners and the industry because we now have the opportunity to be trend setters and be leaders of the pack. The obligation of taking this phenomena of ‘Designer PR’ to new frontiers now lies with us, the industry professionals. Our inter-personal relationship and communication skills will know be put to the test. PR belongs in the innovation culture!

  1. It is true what you say.I feel that a lot of PR's have lost that creativity you are speaking of. They just do what is expected from them so they can go home when the clock strikes 5. Sometimes even earlier than that. People (PR's) do not want to go that extra mile anymore and unfortunately for them, if you want to become a good PR it takes a lot of effort and research and constant working. Your working day does not just stop at 5. You have to keep up with trends in order to be creative and be the best.

  2. PR is the innovation culture. We as PRP's are the trend setters, we lead and the rest follow. Designer PR just gives us that extra boost to be able to be more creative and not bound by the rules and regulations of the business world. Still professional? Yes ofcourse, we are professional, but much more creative. Marcus was right, PR has become boring, only because we as PRP's make the mistake of forming a comfort zone of ideas and block ourselves from even trying to think that something else might just work. Designer PR will give us that extra edge we lack.

  3. I agree with you and the article of Marcus Brewster. We as the new generation of upcoming PR practitioners cannot afford to loose our creativity or passion for PR. We must constantly update our knowledge about what's going on around us in the world and must always be aware of all the big news. We must be willing to go that extra mile for our profession. We are the future, and with the help of Designer PR we can improve the PR profession.

  4. The Future of Public Relations is dependent on the future Public Relations Practitioners, us. Regardless of whether we work in a corporate or a consultancy environment, we need to be the constant change. Pro activeness, life long learning and creativity is the qualities we need to reach the desired future state. Designer PR is merely the beginning of of whats to come, next we might see seasonal PR.
